BOGS fixtures; 2008

Golf - a daft game if ever there was one. They spend all day looking for balls in the bushes, then, when they find one, they don't even fetch it back or try to burst it - they hit it into the bushes and start the whole process over again! 18 holes - and they don't get to dig any of them! Ah well...

The Black 'Orse Golf Society has got a massive list of fixtures arranged arranged as follows:

Sandy Lodge; Thursday, April 3rd - 10:15 meet
Coffee and bacon rolls, followed by 18 holes.
Food and prizes (will there be granite coasters? Is GreenGrass involved?) back at The 'Orse.

Gerrards Cross; Thursday, June 5th - 10:15 meet
My favourite venue for a fantastically scenic walkies. Put your skills on the line for the PRESIDENT'S PUTTER. Breakfast is followed by 18 holes of golf, with food and prizes back at The 'Orse.

Winter Hill; Friday, July 25th - 07:30 meet
The infamous PAIRS COMPETITION. Coffee (I'm a tea dog myself - I expect they'll have that, too) and bacon rolls precede 18 holes. A leisurely two-course lunch is followed by a further 9 holes, with, yes, food and prizes back at The 'Orse.

http://www.uk-golfguide.com/england/26856.html They don't seem to have their own website - perhaps I should ring them up and growl an offer of my services at them?

Berkhamsted; Friday, September 26th
The ever-so-slightly competitive BAR CHALLENGE for the PETER JOY TROPHY - a 16 a side war against those scoundrels from the White 'Orse in 'Edgerley. In the morning is the 4 Ball Better Ball, with a Foursomes in the afternoon.

Captain for this year is Admiral Happy Hallam, who is able to make himself available any time to be plied with IPA by those hoping to be selected for this prestigious event.

Society Challenge Cup; October the somethingth
Watch this space for more details to be announced.

Prices for all of the days will be announced in good time; expect £60 to £75 to be the order of the day.

If you would like to play in any of the events, please talk to your kindly landlord Brendan, or me, Frank Russel (frank@winnardsperch.org).

And don't worry if you think you might get too tired to make it back home afterwards - get yourself booked in to our (newly expanded) B&B and have a decent ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

After due consideration, the Committee has decided to keep the same Club Uniform as last year.

[Many thanks to Greene King for plying Ian Poulter with fifteen pints of Abbotts before he produced the above design.]

The BO Ladies fixtures; 2008

The Black 'Orse Ladies have a pretty busy fixture list for the year under the auspices of theier new Co-ordinator, as witnessed by:

Richings Park, 18 holes, 2.30 on the tee

Northwood, 18 holes, 3.00pm on the tee
11th July

Buckinghamshire, 18 holes, on the tee 3.30
£45.00 THURSDAY 21st August

Fees
The annual membership fee remains at a bargain £15.00. Anyone who wishes to join should send her membership fee of £15.00 to Bridie Fitzgerald, payable to 'Black Horse Ladies Golf Society.'

Trophies
As some of us are running short of trophy space, it was decided that all prizes would be in the form of vouchers, with the amount doubled for 18 holes. Prize giving will be at the Black Horse after each game and you must attend to receive your well-earned prize. Golfing attire in the pub is ideal; anyone who feels the need to change and dolly themselves up will be fined!

Fines
The fines worked well last year and as well as a bit of fun, we also raised monies for a local charity. Blobbing, 3 putting, swearing and late on the tee will attract a 20p fine. Changing your clothes or wearing lippy before you get to the pub will attract a £1.00 fine.

Food and drink
An after-match snack of jacket potato and trimmings plus 1 small glass of wine will cost you £5.00 (and don't forget that the long-suffering pub dog is partial to a bit of sirlion).

Good to see our Ladies cutting a stylish dash on course.

Disowned Drinkers Shuttle Service

With the shocking simultaneous demise of The French Horn and The Packhorse, there have been murmurings of setting up a shuttle service to collect / drop off disenfranchised pubgoers.

Discussions are along the lines of an hourly service for an nominal fee, which will be partly subsidised by The 'Orse and by Mark Roberts' Area Cars.

Any interested parties should speak to Brendan, who is currently wading through some of the red tape associated with trying to stave off the combined ravages of the smoking ban, the sub-prime thingy and increased government taxes. (Here endeth the sermon).

Best Kept Village; 2008 competition

Fulmer has won several first prizes as the Best Kept Village in Bucks - but it doesn't happen by accident! Every year, a team of volunteers - the Fulmer Conservation Volunteers - puts in sterling work to get the village looking its best.

Judging this year takes place from 1st May through to the 30th June and we are looking for volunteers to lend a hand on the following Saturdays; 19th and 26th April and 3rd May. If you would like to help, we'll be meeting at the Black Horse at 9:15 on each of those days.

Do come along and help to bolster Fulmer's reputation as a great place to live!

A volunteer tidies up near the stream last year; should be a bit warmer this year...

Charity Curry Night; Thursday, May 1st

Come on down and enjoy some authentic home curry cooking prepared by our Indian contingent, washed down by copious amounts of a huge variety of drinks.

The details are a bit sketchy at this time - but I'm guessing there'll be a lot more sketchy the morning after! The only guarantee is that you'll have lots of laughs!

Call Brendan on 663183 to make sure you don't miss out on The Spice Boys big effort in aid of childrens' charities.

Fulmer Family Activity Day; Monday, May 5th

Thousands will gather to celebrate this momentous Bank Holiday event - especially if we can find willing bodies to help organise it and find sponsors! If you think you can assist, please don't hesitate to contact Brendan asap.

Scheduled from 2 - 5 p.m., virtually thousands of events are scheduled, including football, a treasure hunt, cricket nets, donkey petting, a mixed doubles tennis competition, a bouncy castle, a barbie and other food stalls, a golf competition, a fire engine (as long as there are no major fires in Bucks on the day!), children's running races, a tug of war and many others.

Be sure not to miss a fun-packed afternoon that all the family can enjoy!

2007 - The Big Match; seconds after the final whistle, TT gives thanks to The Almighty (that'll be Kay) after a sterling victory in Fulmer's very own version of the World Cup Final.

Ladies vs Gents Golf; Friday, June 13th

There's a start time of 2:30 at Richings Park for the annual renewal of this fiercely-contested battle, staged over 18 holes.

Willing participants should contact Brendan as soon as possible - either at The 'Orse, or by calling 10753 663183.

Beware that recent rains have made some of the approaches to Richings Park's greens a little soft.

Ascot Ladies Day; Thurday, June 19th

In aid of the local sports club and recreation ground. The entry fee is £5 per person; we want to organise teams into tables of 4 (you'll be able to join forces on the night) up to 8. There'll be some tasty nibbles, a raffle - possibly even a spot of bingo.

So come along and test your general knowledge; better still, pre-register your daft team name with Brendan as soon as you can - either at The 'Orse, or by calling 10753 663183.

Fulmer Day; Saturday, June28th

We're not sure what's happening yet - you'll have to re-visit to see further details of this annual etravaganza.

And if you'd like to help on the day, Brendan will be your friend for life!

Ladies' Mud Wrestling is one of the few activities not to feature this year.
